The Ugly One By Fernando Muñoz The Ugly One looks at himself in the mirror. Alone in the bathroom, his face looks like a quince, like a badly formed raisin, a dried fig. The Ugly One not only looks at his face with disgust, but at his body as well, his thin, long arms, two threads hanging from his shoulders. The Ugly One thinks that if he had a beard, perhaps he wouldn’t look so ugly. —The light bulb flickers for a moment-- The Ugly One returns to his reality, to his ugliness. He leaves the bathroom and gets dressed in his room. His clothes are ugly too, just like the room. (He is not hungry) He sets off for work, which is in a rather ugly building, one of those from the sixties or seventies. (Utilitarian) He walks along ugly streets, covered in graffiti, all of them coated in a kind of soot that has been gathering over the years. The Ugly One sits at his desk, on an uncomfortable, battered chair, in an office with a very ugly view. For a moment, a memory creeps in. (A silhouette, an echo of a voice. And he smiles.) A memory like a distant dream that fades into the past, when things were not so ugly. Los comentarios están cerrados.
